[Introduction: What's this about?]
Dear colleague
This is us, reaching out. You are receiving this email because you run a creative practice, and might or might not inhabit a studio in Amsterdam. We'd like to propose to you a new idea. An initiative, or movement if you will, that we believe facilitates a much-needed different way of meeting each other.
We would hereby like to extend an invitation to you to join Salon Vrijdag and participate in our VRIJMIBO series, a collectively organized gathering held on the first Friday of the month for many months to come.
But why the fuss? Well, we wish to change the current state of things. There is a void within the creative field. This field has an array of exhi-bitions and parties we can easily attend to meet up with our colleagues. But it doesn't always feel connected to practice, nor necessarily casual, or inspiring for that matter.
What we want to facilitate is an alternative meeting space where we can emphasize these factors. What are our peers working on? Where do they spend their day? Could it be that we have common interests? Is it a possibility we could contribute to each other's practices, or even collaborate?
So what is a VRIJMIBO? A vrijmibo is a common trope of Dutch culture; it is short for vrijdagmiddagborrel, which literally translates to friday afternoon drinks. It is a time for colleagues to get together and celebrate the end of the workweek in an informal manner, and that is exactly what we strive to do.
[Getting to the point: What are we proposing?]
Our Vrijmibos are a social gathering outside of the white cube, and by participating we invite people to our process of making. We would love for you to be a part of it.
Vrijmibo (noun)
*An informal meetup, usually involving drinks, held on Friday afternoon (typically with one's colleagues) at the end of the workweek.
Salon (noun)
*A gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation.
[Where do you (the reader) come in?]
The Salon Vrijdag's VRIJMIBO will be held in Amsterdam on the second Friday of every month from 17:00 till 21:00.
Every month a different studio will host the Salon Vrijdag VRIJMIBO and for that we would like to ask for your participation. If you are interested in using your studio as a potential venue for a VRIJMIBO this could be a way for you to open up your working space, show your practice and to start a discussion about it. on behalf of Salon Vrijdag,
